Counseling & Why it Matters for Everyone

Counseling is interchangeably referred to as therapy and/or psychotherapy. However no matter what you call it, there seems to be stigma and misconceptions that come along with it.  Here are a few we are all familiar with:

  • I’m crazy.

  • I’m unstable.

  • I’m weak.

  • Why spend money to talk to someone, when I could do that with a friend for free.

  • Just give it to God.

It is these messages and more like it that keep a lot of people from experiencing the beautiful and complex thing called therapy. So instead of believing these messages what if I were to tell you that talking to a therapist is a normal part of life. Yet, the experience is far from normal, but rather therapy should be viewed as a life-giving experience. It is one of the ways we can choose to gain more awareness about our experiences, our relationships and ourselves.

However just in case you need more convincing, take time to watch this brief video from The School of Life that captures what therapy is:

My encouragement to you is to take your life into your own hands.

What will you make time for?
